The mission of the San Joaquin County Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) is to protect children and strengthen families through awareness and outcome-driven programs delivered with compassion. We are an agency dedicated to preventing child abuse, ensuring safety, and providing education and treatment for abused and at-risk children and abusive and at-risk parents.

The Child Abuse Prevention Council is committed to protecting the children of our San Joaquin County community, strengthening their families, and giving hope to those seeking to break the sometimes-generational cycle of physical, verbal, sexual, neglect, and emotional abuse. CAPC is a place where parents can learn to be better parents, where children can heal from the wounds of abuse and neglect, and where families can improve their quality of life. While the CAPC is committed to responding to crises to ensure the safety of children, we are not in the business of offering temporary band-aids that don’t address the core issues that bring families to that point of crisis. Many of the families we serve face multiple barriers to their success: substance abuse, domestic violence, unemployment, lack of education and life skills, and/or homelessness.

The mission of CASA is to ensure a safe, permanent and nurturing home for every abused and/or neglected child in Stanislaus County by providing a highly-trained volunteer to advocate for them within the dependency court system.

The goal of CASA volunteer advocates is to prevent abused, neglected and abandoned children from becoming lost in the foster care system by providing individual and high quality advocacy to the foster children we serve.

Each day in California, approximately 70 children who have been abused or neglected join the state’s population of nearly 60,000 children in foster care. These children were abused or neglected and then removed from their families and the place they called home. Sadly, many can become a victim a second time in an overwhelmed child welfare system that does not allow for close attention to each child and their needs or wants.

Children are the passive recipients of decisions made on their behalf by powerful adults. A CASA volunteer is appointed by a judge to advocate for a child’s best interest in court. Our goal is to make a positive and long lasting difference in each child’s life.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are trained community volunteers who are appointed to speak for the abused and neglected children in the Juvenile Superior Court of Stanislaus County. They are sworn officers of the Court under the supervision of the CASA Executive Director and Case Managers, who work alongside attorneys and social workers. An advocate is a caring adult who works for the best interest of a child and reports those interests to the court.

Tuleburg Press is a California Not-For-Profit 501(c)(3) corporation formed in 2013 in Stockton, California. Our mission is to foster literacy in our community, in part by finding and mentoring emerging, gifted, local writers and educating them in the craft of writing and the business of publishing, so they have the necessary tools to have their talents recognized. Being one of the few non-profits in our region with a focus on writing and publishing, we have also come to serve as a de facto communication and networking hub for local writers to collaborate and to share local events and resources of interest to writers within our community.

Tuleburg Press is working to build literacy and writing confidence for all ages through book publishing, one-on-one mentoring, community outreach, and writing workshops. These activities occur at the Write Place, a downtown Stockton creative writing and book arts center, opened in 2017. The Write Place offers writing, bookbinding, and letterpress printing on vintage presses classes and workshops.
